Should I Expect any Hassles from the Mexican Government:

If you are the type of person who is likely to be reading this page, you can rest easy. The Federales won't bother you if behave in a responsible and polite manner or at least don't go too far overboard at Husong's Cantina in Ensenada.  Not aggravating the tourists helps keep those American dollars coming in.  If you are part of the crew who goes further south to the Remnant Center, you, along with everybody else on the road south of Ensenada, will be delayed by army troops conducting routine drug and weapons searches.  We have had no problems so far. 

HOWEVER: You should be aware that the Mexican authorities are very very sensitive about illegal drugs, unforgiving of uninsured people who get involved in auto accidents and go absolutely ballistic about firearms.

Don't even think about bringing illegal pharmaceuticals or guns. If you are going to drive your car in Mexico, be sure you buy and Mexican auto insurance before crossing the border because if you get into an auto accident and can't prove your ability to pay for the damages--and this means "right now"--you can be charged with a serious criminal offense. The peace of mind that comes with your short-term insurance policy is well worth the cost.
